WHERE'S THE FUCKING PUSSY

‘Ello gals, five minutes ago it was Wednesday…
This is going to be a quickie as Katie is at my house…
In ten years I’m still going to be in school working on my masters degree… I don’t know in what yet… maybe in English, or maybe in psychology, or maybe sociology, but the possibilities are kind on infinite right now…
After that I plan on getting my Doctorate or somethin’ so… lots of school…
Katie was being silly earlier and I want to share some quotes:
"Next time a terrorist kidnaps someone they should make everything the kidnappy says a twitter update" -Katie "Kazlo" Zellner

"I'm having a staring contest with the cat. I won because she ran away and I don't run away." -Katie "Kazoo" Zellner

"Where'd the CAT GO" -Katie "Kazoo-Pain" Zellner
"the kitty is like moving the owl necklace around with her paw and it's really cute. now she's taking a bath. now I'm singing. now she's trying to escape. my new cat's gonna live in a book shelf" -Katie "Pain" Zellner

"AWWWW, THE KITTY'S LICKING THE OWL NECKLACE NOW" -Katie "Pain-Kazoo" Zellner

… I think she might be high on something… maybe smores, but I ate them toooooo and I’m no more crazy than normal… maybe she’s sniffing glue…

Anyways…

Quote: "Any time someone warns that “something terrible is coming,” all I could think was: *Yeah, Breaking Dawn. In two parts.”" -MaryAnn Johnson

What I’m Reading: Pre- Summer reading reading… explanation: for my summer reading book I’m reading 1984 and this guy I trust (ok, maybe I kind of like him too, but you know, what ever) says that before reading 1984 I should read some of Orwell’s essays so I learn more about his idea of utopia… so I’m doin’ that

Listening to (and dancing to [with Katie]): “The Only Exception” by Paramore
Watching: Sweeny Todd

Hayley, I’ll read ya’ tomorrow… uh… today…

...and angst

Oh shit, girls, it’s Wednesday!
So I think the hard thing about blogging (at least for me) is the fact that it’s the summer and I’m off school and I totally forget what day it is until really late at night when I want to curl up in my bed and read while I listen to some radiohead or watch Mad Men… (I’ve decided it’s something I should dive into. My dad loves to buy seasons on TV shows used on amazon and watch an episode every day when he excersizes and he already ons the first two seasons; I’m going to watch the first episode tonight... tell me if you watch it, when I get into a TV show I can watch about a season a week so I should be caught up pretty soon and we can talk… anyways) …so I get to it late at night and I spend a shit load of time typing these out, but I have to try to write pretty quickly... I know blogger’s clock is on west coast time (*cough cough* I think blogger’s clock is on west coast time), but in my time zone it’s about four hours earlier than it says it is on blogger and, girls, let me bring you in on a little secret: I never actually make the midnight deadline.
…On to the theme…
So love. I’m pretty damn sure I’ve never been in it. I don’t have a boyfriend. I’ve never had a boyfriend. The closest I’ve gotten to having a boyfriend was a mutual like-ship… in seventh grade… with robby… we were both in set crew so we hung out a lot… I blame the paint fumes because, while Robby is a really great guy, I mean he’s one of my best friends, he is so not my type.
Believe me; I like some people like that, sometimes really intensely, but I’ve never romantically loved anybody… but that’s just romantic love. There are things I love in the world. I love my family and my friends and my dog. I love books, movies, music… I’m kind of really in love with Radiohead right now, but I also love Ben Folds and the Killers.
Speaking of book love… do you girls ever get book crushes? … as in you totally crush on characters from books? I do. I’ve had some book love for:
  • Zach from the Gallagher Girls series
  • Hale from Heist Society
  • Alex Rider from the Alex Rider series (my cousin Sam is going to be in a movie with the lead from the Mission Stormbreaker movie. I’m psyched. He’s hot {The actor, Alex Pettyfer, not my cousin Sam… he’s my cousin, that’d be gross})
  • Spencer from Suite Scarlett
  • The list goes on.
Especially the Weasly twins. I’ve always loved the Weasly twins. Fred and George are so my type.
What is my type?- You may not care, but I tend to like… ok every guy I’ve ever liked has been funny. I like funny guys… also I’m kind of a social studies fan girl so if you’re especially good in your history/ government/ econ. Class…bonus points. Also if you’re good in a debate or model UN or that type of thing because I love a good, well informed, but civil-ish, argument.
I should probably sign off now as this could go on a while if I get to talking about boys I like…
What I’m Watching: Mad Men Pilot
What I’m Reading: Consider the Lobster by David Foster Wallace
What I’m  Listening To: Radiohead… right now it’s on Creep
Quote: "People are born with certain faces, like my father was born with a face that people want to hit."

And "The others were all brought up to be polite. I wasn't."

And "You will never make friends unless you like everyone genuinely. Oh well, I'm fucked then aren't I?"

And "You will become a hypocrite, you'll become a liar. You'll try and paper up your own cracks... and that's what being an adult is all about. Then you have babies and... *shrug* that's it. *long pause* Sorry! *laughs*"

And

"I'm not afraid of computers taking over the world. They're just sitting there. I can hit them with a two by four"
-Radiohead

...and I'm about to make deadline for the first time!

Haley, I'm looking forward to reading you tomorrow

"Back Home Again In Indiana"

Hey girls, it’s Wednesday.

I’m home from camp now and I’m glad to be back. I’m glad to be back. I’m glad to be back. Sorry, I’m hoping that if I tell myself I’m glad to be back over and over again it will become true. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy to be seeing my family again, but in the short three weeks I lived there I came to really love New York. I really miss my suite mates and the city already… but I’m hope now and I’m happy about it! #falseenthusiasm. I have all kinds of stories to tell about camp, but I have to figure out how to tell them first. So I’m going to tell you stories from camp in another post and instead use this post to spend a bit of time talking about my home state.

I feel like the best way to talk about Indiana is by talking about the title of this post. Go ahead, scroll back up to see it, I’ll wait. That’s a quote from a song. It’s called “Back Home Again In Indiana”, I considered posting the lyrics here, but I decided against it. Why?... you may not really care why, but I want you to ask why. Alright Emily, “why?” There you go, now please stop being so demanding. I didn’t post the lyrics to the song because I feel like they don’t capture its true feeling. It’s a sentimental song. When you listen to it the song seems kind of sad and loving in this completely sweet way, at least that’s how I feel. The song is not Indiana’s official state song, but I feel like it should be because of the way it makes you imagine the Hoosier state (in case you didn’t know, people from Indiana are called “Hoosiers” or “hicks” but, to quote my uncle Ed [who is actually an intelligent man] “we like to prefer to be called Hoosiers.”). I invite you to look the song up, but first I’m going to tell you that, honestly, that’s not how I usually view the 19th state of the union. I will admit that I’m not really a proud Hoosier, I’m not sure anybody is… well maybe some few people from Indy… yeah, Indy’s a pretty nice place… anyways, I’m don’t there are very many proud Hoosiers out there. I can remember in my theater project class one of the plays had flag desecration. We wanted to perform the play, but we knew the American flag and the school flag were off limits and I remember someone saying “Could we use the state flag” Someone else then said “I bet we could, I mean when I drive past the state flag I don’t really feel any sense of pride… I mean I see an Indiana state flag and I guess I kind of laugh.” … While we didn’t end up performing the play the conversation really makes it obvious how Hoosiers, at least the Hoosiers at my school, feel about the state. Who can blame them?

  • With a population of 795,458, Indianapolis is the largest city in Indiana and 13th largest in the United States. Three other cities in Indiana have a population greater than 100,000: Fort Wayne (251,247), Evansville (116,253) and South Bend (104,069).
  • Indiana ties with South Carolina for 8th highest Obesity rate in the country.
  • In 2003, Indiana ranked 11th in the nation for the lowest percentage of adults lacking Basic prose literacy skills.
In Indiana’s second largest city 12.5% of the population and 9.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 17.5% of those under the age of 18 and 7.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
·      In January of 2005 Men’s Health Magazine called Fort Wayne the Dumbest city in the United States… believe me, I remember when my 4th grade class found out. Articles about it:
o      USA Today, Looking For Signs of Intelligent Life in Fort Wayne: http://www.usatoday.com/life/2005-01-19-dumb-cities_x.htm

…Anyways, I’m home now and it’s bittersweet.

What I’m Reading: AH EVERYTHING, but recently I’ve been focusing on Noam Chompsky… Although, I got Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World books 4 through 6 (!!) today so…
What I’m listening to: Catching up on NPR’s “This American Life” but also “Ulysses” by Franz Ferdinand
What I’m Watching: Arrested Development Season 1
Quote:  "Certain motherfuckers think they can fuck with my shit, but you can't kill the Rooster. You might can fuck him up some times, but, bitch, nobody kills the motherfucking Roster. You know what I'm saying?"

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

-Douglas Adams... love quoting him... also, fits the food theme?

SO this is me blogging… really shortly… because I have to go ship my life… and I’m busy in this wonderful way.

Last Week:
Favorite things in no particular order: friends, a good book, liberalism, chipotle, boys, Ben folds, the killers, social commentary, writing, my computer, a good joke, your mother jokes, my suite mates, England, world cup soccer, my comedy writing class, lightning bugs, having enough quarters to wash AND dry my laundry, the color blue, the color gray, trees, maple leaves, paper cranes, drizzle (but not torrential rain), Columbia HSP, my school, the love cave (Katie may be the only one who gets that… and maybe Hannah), Douglas Adams, activism, USED BOOKSTORES, independent book stores, libraries, Vegetarian/ Vegan restaurants, cake batter flavored frozen yogurt, bubble tea, MINT, LIMES, hand sanitizer, the public transportation system, THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE, Harry potter, apple, my comedy writing class, making fun of hipsters, nice people, indie/artsy people, nerds, my research project, notebooks, a fresh sheet of paper, David Sedaris, this American life, the rooster, dirty truth or truth in a room full of virgins, Vonnegut, Philosophy, Psychology, politics, political debates, debates, winning, music, Social Studies, History geeks, “a poem written by a bear” Vonnegut, etc.

This Week:
I adore chipotle.
I love everything that tastes like mint or lime… everything.
I’m a total omnivore, but I love vegan and vegetarian food, especially falafel with humus.
I love Jewish food, but matzo balls… wow.
Chicken wing sauce is good on pretty much everything.
I also love:
Ice cream, especially mint chocolate chip or blue moon.
John Jay (the dining hall) because, while the food isn’t amazing, it is, on some level, free because I have pre-paid meal plan.

I want to tell you more about life here, but I have to go write a dialog, but NEXT WEEK I swear. It’s amazing here, I love the people and I’m going to miss this place and all my friends so much.
