Too early for titles

Hi! You know what I love except not really? When my little sister calls me in the middle of the night saying I forgot to guest blog for her. Fun times. No joke, it's 5:30 in the morning. Tenley is insane. But here I am, against my will, blogging. On a cheerier note, let's talk about briefly about me and then move quickly to embarrassing Tenley. Sound good?

I'm Kristina, I'm 20 years old and a Junior at Western Michigan University majoring in communications with a minor in fashion. Which is a fancy way of saying I love to talk and shop. Because of my love for talking I could go on for hours about me but let's not and say we did. Instead let's embarrass Tenley and quickly so I can go back to sleep.

1. She has tendency to talk in her sleep. I know this because we shared a room for fourteen years. Usually she'd just be saying pointless stuff but one time I caught her saying "no please Mr. Carrot don't..." and then she trailed off. I of course questioned her in the morning but she didn't remember or is hiding the answer from me.

2. Back in high school I once saw her talking to the guy she had a crush on for most of high school and then she turned to leave and proceeded to trip... not once, not twice, but three times. There wasn't even anything there to trip her she's just really clumsy.
~ On that note, I've also seen her sitting on the floor with her old choir ensemble and then try to get up and just fall over because as she explained later, "her foot was asleep".

3. This one isn't really embarrassing and for that I apologize, but it's one of my favorite quotes by Tenley ever. The two of us were watching a fashion show on t.v. and this model came down the runway in this hideous dress. So of course I start saying everything wrong with it: "if you forget about the fact that is has weird ruffles and a weird shawl thing and..." so on. Tenley waits till I'm done with this (long) list and then adds, "if you forget about the fact that it's disgusting it's not that bad." And that, is why I think Tenley is so awesome, because she says shit like that.

Well, I'm going back to sleep now. Hopefully this was significantly embarrassing for you.

TRANSLATIONS ROCK

Hey girls, it's Sunday! This week's theme is have a guest blog for you. My guest is my totally awesome friend HADKEY. Enjoy :D.

A brief apology: Before I begin writing, I sincerely apologize to Katie for forgetting I had to write this.

Wassup, Nerdfighters! Fellow Nerdfighter Hadley Todoran here as your guest blogger, here to give you all some insight on my friendship with the fantastically awesome Katie.

So, as you may or may not know, Katie is one of my many adopted children, and I've found that our mother-daughter relationship is surprisingly similar to more conventional (i.e. biological) mother-daughter relationships. I keep an eye on her progress in math class, I occasionally have to break up fights between her and her other siblings, and once in a while, I'm the target of her teenage aggression. (I am, of course, referring to the time she threw a copy of The Scarlet Letter at my neck, but I digress). Now, one may think that what with Katie and I being so close in age, we might have been able to avoid the usual mother-daughter problem of generational differences in areas such as slang terms. However, despite our near lack of age difference, we've run into a similar problem. Katie has her own bloody language.

We've been working through this pretty well, and fewer things are getting lost in translation as time goes on. I'll give you all a sample of what I've been able to translate so far, in alphabetical order and with phonetic spelling because I really don't know how the hell she spells some of these.

Okiedokies – okay, but with more letters; (“Okiedokies, this is as simple as this whole translation thing gets.”

Pachoo – can mean a variety of things; generally describes movement (“Then it goes pachoo!”); there are exclamatory forms as well: “pachooble” (negative) and “pacheeple” (positive)

Papooey – very similar to “pachoo,” but specific to explosions (“You should watch the one where the world goes papooey!”)

SAD – like the usual adjective “sad,” but far more emphatic and usually with fangirly undertones (“David Tennant's getting married. SAD... Now I have no chance...”)

Shmeh – an exclamation used to express disgruntlement; interchangeable with “shmeble” and “shmah” (“Christmas is over. Shmeh.”); the positive counterparts are “shmee” and “shmeeple” (“It's July! Time to start playing Christmas music! Shmeeple!”)

The Thing – can also mean a variety of things; limited to nouns; often used in math; interchangeable with “Thingy” (“You basically make a giant thing...and you put it in a box.”)

These are the words I've been able to translate, and there are also a few phrases she often uses that, I believe, serve no other purpose besides making me question both her sanity and my parenting skills.

“Don't throw it! It's a book!” - I'd say this was good, normal, healthy advice if she hadn't, you know, hypocritically thrown a book at my throat that one time.

“Math is fun!!!” - Said with a concerning sort of glee.

“I'm a reindeer!!!” - Accompanied by wild, flapping hand motions. I don't even know.

In addition to all of these utterances, there is also The Laugh. I'm not entirely sure what it translates to besides something like “UBERLOL,” but I do know that it concerns me. Greatly.

And so, my friends, this is where Katie and I stand when it comes to understanding each other. As you can tell, we've got a lot of work to do, but I feel that with a little effort, we will one day both be bilingual in Katie-speak and normal, sane English. (And possibly in Hadley-speak...Katie, you could probably make one of these for me now that I think about it...I don't even register the weird crap I say anymore...maybe that's why we have such a language barrier).

Nerdfighters, thanks for reading me and Katie, I'll see you in math class. DFTBA

Sarah has little time (again)

Hey girls, it's Saturday!

I'm in Germany now, going to Poland on Monday and then to Norway on Thursday. And back to Austria on Friday 18th. Busy busy, but I love travelling (I would even love it more if somebody would pay for all my trips).

So the theme is desserts... I love desserts. Tenley's recipe for ice cream sounds really good, and I will also definitely try Katie's brownies and Haley's milkshakes!

What I really like is:
- Ice cream (always and forever, no matter how much I ate - ice cream is a must)
- Cake
- Tiramisu
- something my mother makes from time to time called Pineapple Tiramisu - it's basically a lot of cream, mascarpone and pineapple piece and it's YUMMY

I would share my famous straciatella cake recipe with you, but it's at home and I'm not, but if you want I can post it when I'm home.

Take care,
Sarah

You have to wait for it to look like a butt hole

It's Thursday!

I'm going to talk about milkshakes because they are my favorite!

My mom makes the best milkshakes ever, and I guess that I"m not really sure how she makes them so I'll just have to wing it because I have to go finish my homework.

BAD ASS MILKSHAKES

Ice Cream- It doesn't really matter what flavor, or how much.  Just eyeball it.  If you are hungry then have a lot, if you aren't... still have a lot.  My logic based off the fact that it tastes really good.

Milk- If you are lactose intolerant or shit.... TOO BAD. (If anyone of you are lactose intolerant... I'm sorry for being so insenstitive.)

Marsh mellow Cream- ah-maze-ing.

Hot fudge- Gives it extra flavor

Then when you blend it you have to wait for the hole in the middle to look like a butthole.  I'm not really sure what this means, or how my mom knows what a butthole looks like, but I just trust her.

DONE.

Your welcome.

Now I have to go do my homework.

DFTBA,
Haley

Emily Isn't Domestic...

HEY GIRLS, apparently even a snow day can't make me blog on time...

So, I'm coming off two snow days, a historic occasion at Canterbury High School. We kind of just went through snowmageddon (or snowpocalys if you prefer). I think we got 2 feet of snow? It was legit.

Anyhow... this week's theme is desserts... I don't really cook well... or at all... but we're jews so we have some amazing family recipies... I just don't know them...
My favorite desert includes fruit or mint flavored stuff... I'm sorry I'm not so elloquent today, but I just remembered to blog and I'm tired and I'm not spell checking and none of this is a good excuse and maybe, if I get to it, I'll post a continuation of this on my blog and I'll put that in the comments, but now I'm just going to go to bed...

What I'm Reading: David Foster Wallace
What I'm Watching: Buffy, Angel, Dexter, This American Life
What I'm listening to: See last week's blog

Tenley shares the secret to making ice cream

Hey girls, it's Tuesday. In the spirit of honesty I should tell you that I was going to write this about an hour ago but I was busy playing Letterblox. It's really fun (basically its an anagramming game on omgpop). But anyways, the theme is desserts so desserts shall be talked about! Hey, I just thought of something, do you think this blog would be more effective if I wrote while eating ice cream? I think it would. Hold on. *goes to get ice cream* Okay, I'm back. *takes a bite* Mmm... delicious. Sidenote: On the way to the kitchen I ran into a wall. I just thought you should know.

Anyways, as far as desserts go I'm a huge ice cream fan. At this moment I'm eating a Drumstick. Except, its not actually a Drumstick, well it is, but it doesn't have nuts on top it has sprinkles so I don't consider it a Drumstick. Nuts are better... did I just say that?

I was going to do what Katie did an post a recipe to one of my favorites but then I realized I don't know any recipes. This probably has something to do with my lack of cooking skill. But that's not going to stop me, well it does stop me from cooking, but it's not going to stop me from posting a recipe. Enjoy!

Step 1: Go to kitchen. Try not to run into walls.
Step 2: Find the freezer. It will usually be located next to the refrigerator. Scan the room for this contraption. You are looking for a large box thing that gives off cold air.
Step 3: Open the freezer. This is a hard step so take your time. Carefully place your hand on the handle of the so called "freezer" and grasp it firmly. Once your ready, pull on the handle until the magic freezing machine opens to reveal its treasure.
Step 4: Rummage until you find what you desire. This could take anywhere from five seconds to three hours so be prepared.
Step 5: Once you have found it grab it and place the magic container on the counter/table so that you can find the necessary utensils. Those utensils include; a bowl, a spoon and an ice cream scoop.
Step 6: Once these tools are acquired fill the bowl with the contents of the magic container based on hunger levels, and amount left in the container.
Step 7: Take your freshly prepared snack to comfortable sitting position and enjoy.

Oh, what's that? You want a cone? Slow down there... we'll safe that for our next lesson. For now, just stick with what you know.

So yeah, that was a thing I did. I'm going to go play Letterblox again and then maybe do some homework.
